Double Harness Study Group

Chair: Jan Zindel, jzindel@newnorth.net
Fees: US - $5.00; Canada - $8.00; Others - $10.00 (US funds)
Publication: Quarterly newsletters
Exchange: informal, information, samples, and drafts
Group began: 1984
Membership: Varies.

The newsletter is published 4 times a year: November --February --May-- August. The group year begins with the November newsletter. All dues expire with the August newsletter. Dues may be prepaid for two or more years. Newsletter mailing labels and the annual membership roster lists membership expiry dates. Since the newsletter is the main source of membership information, members are encouraged to contribute news of projects, questions about weaving and using double harness looms. No drawloom experience is required, nor is ownership of a drawloom. The group offers support, encouragement and information for anyone curious about or considering acquisition of a drawloom. Group members own a wide variety of drawlooms and have adapted them in a variety of ways.

Letters and information may be sent to the Chair by postal service or email.

This group has been functioning since 1984, and in 1998 two of the members, Peggy Hoyt and Suzanne Nicholson published Drawlooms, American Style. The group is currently working on compilation of a handbook on "Beginning Drawloom" information. The group meets in person only as members visit one another or at conferences where they might meet. The main benefit of this group is the network of people interested in double harness weaving, and the sharing of information.

In addition to the newsletter, members correspond directly with each other for common problems and ideas. Current membership fees cover the cost of newsletter printing and postage.
